Introduction to Owl City

I love being introduced to new music by friends, especially when they're as great as Owl City. Owl City, a one-manned project by Adam Young, is known for its happy-go-lucky tunes and synthesized sounds. It has often been compared to the likes of The Postal Service, but once you hear them, you'll notice the unique uplifting lilt absent from some of its contemporaries.

Their latest album, Ocean Eyes, has just dropped! So I've included a few notable tracks as an introduction to the wonderful artistry that is Owl City. And in fact, it is from one of these songs that I got the inspiration for the name of this blog.

Enjoy!

Owl City - Rainbow Veins

Owl City - Fireflies

Owl City - Designer Skyline

Owl City - Hello Seattle

Owl City - Strawberry Avalanche

Music Video for Wale - W.A.L.E.D.A.N.C.E.

I've gotta represent DC with Wale, who's done an outstanding remix of Justice's single, D.A.N.C.E. Wale and Ronson even performed this at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. Hope you guys enjoy this!

Dynamic Typography

According to the well-respected Wikipedia, typography is "the art and technique of arranging type, type design, and modifying type glyphs." I actually have a lot of respect for those who do typography well. They not only have to present words artistically, but also to do so in an attractive, entertaining fashion. Below is a few of the ones that I find are done exceptionally well.

Official Music Video of Kid Cudi ft. Kanye West & Common - Make Her Say

This is the second single from Kid Cudi, which samples an acoustic version of Lady GaGa's Pokerface. A better, clearer version of the music video can be found here.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Breaks Records

I don't know about you guys, but I went to see the midnight showing of the 6th installment of Harry Potter, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. And I helped it break the record for the highest grossing midnight opening movie of all time!

Not even 24 hours have passed since its opening, and the Half-Blood Prince has already taken in $20 million!!!!! It now surpasses the midnight sales of 2nd place The Dark Knight, which took in $18 million, and 3rd place Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, with $17 million.

I've always been a little disappointed in the movie adaptations, so I had low expectations going into the movie. But I was pleasantly surprised by David Yates' direction, and I think this might be my favorite of the film series thus far. Be forewarned that this one spends much more time on the lives of teenagers than in any of the other movies.
